Introduction to a Senior in College

Hi my name is Kristine Arning and I am a senior. With graduation quickly approaching all that’s on my mind is finding a job. I am a advertising major and enterprise studies minor, and I am hoping to find a job in either Dallas or Austin. I love advertising because it allows me to be in a career where I can add a little creativity and fun.

My biggest accomplishment in my college career has been getting an internship in New York City! Two summers ago I interned as a media planner at MediaVest. I learned about the industry, as well as about myself. I loved living in the city, but I have no plans to move there permanently because it is too far away from my friends and family.

My family is the most amazing people I know. I have two older sisters who are basically my best friends. In fact, my oldest sister is married and just had a baby. My nephew is the greatest addition to our family and we love him more than anything! He is seven months old and the center of attention.

(My Nephew)

I am so lucky to have met so many great people in college. I found all of my best friends in my sorority, Pi Beta Phi. They are the greatest girls I’ve ever met and my life wouldn’t be the same without them. My friends are extremely important to me and they are the ones who keep me sane while studying and keeping up with classes.

In my free time I like to hangout with my friends. I watch way too much TV, and I love watching movies. I have recently started practicing yoga, and I absolutely love it! It is such a great way to relax while staying in shape.

That’s a little bit about me! :)

  1. Hi Kristine, I'm Andrea. Congrats on reaching your Senior year. Advertising sounds like an interesting career choice. I'm not that creative. Glad you are close with your sisters. I've never been close to my sister or brother and I wish I was. Your nephew is adorable. I watch way too much tv and movies as well. We own a ton of dvds and blurays. It's an inexpensive past-time. Nice to "meet" you.

I have two older sisters who I love and adore and a nephew, who I consider the love of my life! I also have a niece and I am obsessed with both of them so much! You're nephew is too cute. Theres nothing that warms my heart more than a happy baby!

  3. Oh, look at your nephew! What a cutie! And with an elephant toy that is bigger than he is! We have some India stories coming up later in the semester, so I hope you will enjoy learning something about the land that gave yoga to the world. There is a Storybook someone did about the names associated with the different yoga poses that come from characters in the Hindu storytelling tradition. You might be intrigued to see the stories of yoga she included — very ancient stories! Here it is: Workshop: Learning the origins of the poses

  7. Oh my goodness, your nephew is so cute! I understand him being the center of attention, my sister recently had a little girl and she is all of our pride and joy. It sounds like that internship was a fantastic opportunity and I a so glad you got to take advantage of it! I have always wanted to do yoga but just have not jumped in yet, but you've given me another inspiration to give it a shot.

  8. Hi Kristine! I'm also an advertising major and would love to work in Dallas or Austin, so that's cool! I think it is so neat that you interned in NYC even though you don't necessarily plan on living there after graduation! I also think I'd have too much of a hard time moving that far from family and friends. Good luck with your last semester here at OU and with getting a job!

  9. Hey Kristine! I love the first picture of the Dallas skyline, thats really cool. Like you, I am approaching graduation. I cannot believe it is almost here. After spring break, it will be here before we know it. Thats funny that you say you watch way too much TV, because I do too. I just finished the new season of House of Cards in 2 and a half days so thats pretty pathetic of me. I could get so much more done if it wasn't for netlifx haha. Good luck with everything and happy graduation!

  10. Hi Kristine! My name is Matty and I am also a senior this year. I am a public relations major but I have loved all of the advertising classes that I have taken throughout my time here at OU. I think it is so cool that you had an internship in New York City. I think it would be so cool to live there for a summer!

  11. From reading your stores I would have to agree they you are creative!. That is really cool you had an internship in New York! With your two sisters I am the opposite. I have two younger sisters, they are actually twins. We have had a stronger relationship ever since i've been in college.

  12. Oh my goodness--what a cute baby nephew! It's awesome when your siblings are your best friends--in my case, I have two younger brothers, but I'm still super close with them, and I'd agree that having family and friends you can count on to support you is amazingly helpful in college (also at all other times, but it's mid-semester right now and I LIVE for time I get to spend with my friends). And I'm glad you've found a major that you're happy with--advertising has never been my cup of tea, but it sounds like it gives you some space to be creative, so that's good! Anyway, good luck with the job hunt and the rest of your semester!

It's awesome that you're so close with your family and your baby nephew is super cute! Good luck with the job search!

  15. I'm so jealous of your super cute nephew! My brother is only two years older than me, so I sadly won't have any nieces or nephews for quite some time. Your internship in New York sounds awesome, and so does the field of advertising! I think both Dallas and Austin are great cities, so I hope you can meet your goal of being able to move there.

  16. Hi Kristine! I don't know if you know each other, but there's another Advertising major in our class too! I had considered being an advertising major, but decided against it. It's so cool that you got to intern in New York City! I've never been, but have always wanted to go at least once. The crowds are a little intimidating though.
